The Tour de Nesle was once the residence and studio of Benvenuto Cellini when he accepted the invitation of Francois I to come to Paris and make art for him as sculptor and goldsmith. He received the same salary (700 Crowns) as had Leonardo da Vinci, plus promise of payment for works completed for the king, when the older artist had previously moved to France to work for Francois. The Tour de Nesle was demolished in 1665.
